This year’s anniversary weekend was based in the lovely county of Cheshire (the Surrey of the north) on 9th, 10th and 11th October. We were based at the stunning Wild Boar Hotel near Tarporley, just off the A49,

On Saturday, we visited Quarry Bank Mill in Styal, until very recently a working cotton mill, where we experienced hands-on exhibits and demonstrations into how cotton was processed and gained a fascinating insight into the lives of the people who worked there. We experienced the sounds and smells of steam and water powered engines and saw the most powerful working waterwheel in Europe.

Stanley Cup

The revival of the Stanley Cup, which first ran in 1930, was a great success. Organised jointly by the BMW Historic Motor Club and the Frazer Nash Car Club the event consisted of ten teams competing in a number of regularity tests. Based at Llandrindod Wells, the spectacular scenery, combined with sunny and dry weather, ensured a great weekend. The Stanley Cup was won by the ‘Art Decorum’ team from the BMW Historic Motor Club.

Classic Silverstone Social weekend’

This year we were based at the Aviator Hotel, Sywell Aerodrome, Northampton, formerly a WW II RAF aerodrome, this Art Deco building has been renovated to its former glory. The 1930’s Art Deco bar and restaurant were used during the war as a club house and officers’ mess, a step back in time to a bygone age of aviation, style and fun.

Programme:

  • Friday – pre-weekend supper at the home of rally organisers Richard Wyldes and Eliza Morgan.
  • Saturday – Day at the Silverstone Classic race meeting, Club stand with great views over the Luffield complex of bends.
